The other day my lovely Auntie handed me a poem written by Mother Teresa. I thought it was rather special and needed to be shared.
"People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centred;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway."
Mother Teresa is someone who has become more and more of an inspiration as time has gone on. Originally she was a lady that I thought of as 'kind and nice.' Now I read about her and think 'what an amazing woman, giving up everything she had ever known and jumping into the life that God had called her to do. What could happen? didn't faze this tiny, God driven woman.
I have a friend who is leaving today to go and do what God has called him to do. No matter the danger, no matter what may come his way, he has decided to follow God. He heard the call, he's packing his bags, he's going to evangelise.
These two people have placed even more excitement in me to follow the life that I am called to. This is my dream, my desire...to walk down the path that my Maker has chosen for me, none other. It's not about success, money, material things or how comfortable we are. It is doing what we were originally designed to do.
